About Us

Hello! Dana Lee here. Thanks for visiting RealFit.tv. Seriously, that's very cool of you to be here.

This page shares a bit about how RealFit came to be & why our health & fitness message is so important & powerful for women (& men) today.

I've been a fitness professional for over half my life. I taught my first group fitness class (eh-um, then called "aerobics") back in 1994, straight outta high school. & to be honest, I SUCKED at it. for real. I was BAAAAD. (The girls in the lockerroom said so.)

However, that didn't stop me. I kept at it anyway. True, I am an introvert & teaching in front of a group of people several times a week had me pretty freaked out over the following 3 years. But, as I started to develop my own style, I actually had more fun with it. I could begin to see that I was clearly on the path of what I was meant to do with my life.

What drove me to start working in a gym in the first place at the ripe age of 17...

well, I had no clue what to do as far as careers go, but I did know I was petrified of gaining weight & I worked out to Gilad Jenklowics & Denise Austin at 6am every morning of my senior year. So... I decided I should start working in a gym. :-)

Being identified as the "skinny girl" growing up, from age 16 til somewhere in my mid 30's, I was driven by the belief that if I gained weight I would be totally shunned by family, friends & society.

That's a long time to live with a belief that was ultimately untrue & totally made up. It was exhausting - Literally. It drove me to workout several HOURS a day for years & years. All through my 20's in fact.

And being a fitness instructor who teaches step, kickboxing, spinning, interval training, BodyPump, etc, etc... it became really easy to blame it on my multiple jobs working in 4 different gyms.

Fast forward to May of 2001. I ultimately received my BFA in Graphic Design (yup, totally unrelated but side note: I'm an artist too) & a minor in Exercise Physiology.

Here's why my graphic design degree became such an integral part of my fitness profession:

It taught me to understand marketing. And with my new perspective, I could see that every single gym/fitness billboard & poster & flyer... website, banner & ad... all had ripped fitness models dripping with sweat & scantily clad.

As if these photoshopped models were inspiring or attainable for the average chick who might be interested in working out & taking better care of themselves. What the... ????

Well, at least I know from my perspective at the time, they didn't inspire me. Instead, they made me feel "not good enough" or like I wouldn't fit in. It was intimidating & turned me off. My own industry TURNED ME OFF!

So, I set out to open my own boutique fitness studio in 2008. I called it Evolution Health & Fitness.

It was the anti-gym. It was where "every body evolves." The fitness message was less about your physical appearance & more about doing the things that help you feel better & better about yourself in an atmosphere that lifted you up.

The economy tanked my business - or shall I say, I tanked my business during the economy. It was the most devestating time my husband & I have ever been through.

The good news is I reinvented myself & took my workouts online during a time when most people didn't understand what I was doing with streaming fitness videos on the internet.

In 2012, I started my YouTube channel. Maybe that's how you know me! Most of our members started there before they were ready to take it to the next level.

From 2012 - 2014 I posted workouts on YouTube.

Now, they are still part of the archives, but since then we've added hundreds more only available in the member's area on our site.

This site is all about REAL people - of all ages, shapes, sizes & fitness levels - just like you. There are no fitness models in my workouts. That's just not reality. What you see in my videos are truly my clients and my hope is that you find incredible inspiration in them as I do.

You'll be able to find fun, inspiring & entertaining workout videos that range anywhere from 20 to 60 minutes, including formats like Yoga, Indoor Cycling, Kickboxing (including boxing with the heavy bag), Total Body Strength workouts (using mostly dumbbells & a mat), Interval Training (HIIT), & Step.

Mixing & matching these different formats lead you to creating a long-term sustainable workout plan that continues to help you feel better & better about yourself.

You get to experience these REALity classes from the privacy of your home or... wherever you have an internet connection.

Our goal at RealFit is to help you develop a new perspective on what a healthy lifestyle means to you, regardless of how busy your life is or how insecure you feel about working out in a gym or in public. It's ok! WE GET IT & WE UNDERSTAND. We're here to be your support system, cheerleader & your go-to resource to weed out the diet & fitness bullshit.

HIGH FIVE for taking a stand in honoring who you are & seeking a workout community that encourages working out as your reward, not your punishment.

Join in on the conversation & become a fan of RealFit.tv on Facebook.

I'm psyched to meet you & can't wait to workout together!

See you in the next video!
